A wobbly banister is a safety issue, especially with children or elderly relatives in the house. We re-fix newel posts properly (the anchor of the whole balustrade), replace broken spindles with matching turnings, and glue and screw creaking treads and risers. Where spindles are painted-in originals we repair rather than replace to keep the character.
