Plumbing — frequently asked questions
Straight answers on pricing, timings and guarantees — and the honest advice we'd give a neighbour.
How quickly can you get to a leak or burst pipe?
For genuine emergencies we aim to be with you the same day — often within a couple of hours. Call rather than email for anything urgent, and we'll talk you through turning the water off while we're on our way.
Can you supply and fit a new tap I've already bought?
Yes — we're happy to fit taps, toilets and other fittings you've bought yourself, or we can supply quality parts we trust and guarantee. Either way the fitting is guaranteed.
Will you need to turn my water off?
Usually only briefly, and we'll always warn you first. For most tap and toilet repairs we can isolate just that fitting, so the rest of the house keeps running.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No separate call-out fee — you pay for the work we do, with the price agreed before we start. For emergencies outside normal hours we'll always tell you the rate on the phone before we set off, so there are never surprises.
Can you find a leak without ripping my floor up?
In most cases, yes. We trace leaks with moisture meters and pressure testing first, so we only open up the exact spot that needs it — not the whole room. If excavation is genuinely needed, we'll show you the evidence first.
My water pressure is terrible — can that be improved?
Often, yes. Sometimes it's a partially closed stop tap, a clogged filter or an old narrow pipe run — all cheap fixes. Where the mains pressure itself is low, we can talk you through options like accumulators or booster pumps.
Do you guarantee your plumbing work?
Yes — all workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, and parts carry the manufacturer's warranty on top. If something we fitted fails, we come back and put it right at no charge.
Should I turn my water off when I go on holiday?
It's a good habit — most serious water damage happens in empty houses. Turn off the internal stop tap (usually under the kitchen sink). If yours is seized or you can't find it, we'll fit an accessible one — cheap insurance.
Can you move my washing machine to the garage or utility room?
Yes — we run new supply and waste pipework to wherever you want the appliance, with proper isolation valves and drainage falls. It's a common job and usually takes half a day.
Why does my tap drip even after I've changed the washer?
Usually because the valve seat inside the tap is worn or scored, so the new washer can't seal against it. Sometimes we can regrind the seat; often a new cartridge or a replacement tap is the honest answer — we'll show you which.
